Add a Link to a Frequently Used File

Within a Links dashpart, you can set up links to frequently used files that are located on your computer or network.

If an administrator includes a Links dashpart when saving a Dashboard layout for other users, only those file that are on network shares will be accessible. Any file that is located on a user's hard drive will not be accessible to other users.

To add a link to a file:

  1. In the desktop application, click Dashboard in the toolbar on the main DPS screen.
  2. In a dashpart title bar, click the drop-down arrow next to the dashpart name and select New Record.
  3. On the Add Links dialog box, select a Link Type of File.
  4. Click the File hyperlink and browse to the file.
  5. Select the file and click Open.

The filename displays in the URL Link window. DPS automatically includes the "http: //", "ftp://", or "file://" portion of the URL.

  6. If you want the link to be identified by a caption in the dashpart, enter a URL Caption.
  7. Click Save.
