Searching for Projects and Opportunities

To locate and display a project or opportunity plan in Project View or for project resource management reports, use one of the standard saved searches to limit the number of projects and opportunities in the selection list, or create and apply your own custom search.

Standard Saved Searches

The drop-down list at the left end of the search field contains the following standard saved searches:
  • Click Active to select from a list of all active projects and opportunities to which you have access.
  • Click All to select from a list of all projects and opportunities to which you have access, regardless of status.
  • Click Projects I Manage to select from a list of all active projects and opportunities for which you are the project manager at any level of the work breakdown structure (WBS).
  • Click Organization to select from a list of all active projects and opportunities that are assigned at any WBS level to the organization to which you are assigned in the Employees hub. This option is only available if DPS is configured to use organizations.
  • Using the Organization 1 level as an example, click Organization 1 to select from a list of all active projects and opportunities that are assigned, at any WBS level, to an organization with the same Organization 1 value as the organization to which you are assigned in the Employees hub. The searches for the other organization levels work in the same way. This option is only available if DPS is configured for a fixed organization structure.

If you use a saved search that only returns active records, a project or opportunity is considered active if the status of the top-level WBS element is Active.

Custom Searches

In addition to standard saved searches, the drop-down list at the left end of the search field contains any custom searches you have saved. It also contains a Custom option at the end of the list that you can click to display the Custom Search dialog box and create a new custom search.

Note the following:
  • The results of custom searches you create are not limited to the projects and opportunities with which you are associated; they are only limited by your access rights as set up in DPS.
  • If you search based on a field that could exist for multiple WBS levels, the search returns projects and opportunities with a matching value in that field at any WBS level.
  • If you use the Project Status field to search based on status, the search only looks at the status of the top-level element of the WBS. For example, if you select Active, the search returns projects and opportunities for which the top-level WBS element is Active, regardless of the status assigned to lower-level elements.
  • If you have both plans for projects and plans for opportunities, use the Plan Type field to restrict the search results to only one of those types of plans.

Additional Filter

In Project View, you can further filter the search results from a standard or custom search by entering one or more characters from the project or opportunity name or number in the search field.

Though the project's long name does not display in DPS, when you search on a project name, DPS searches for a match in the project long name as well as in the short name and project number.
