Copy a Project Record

You can copy the current project record to duplicate the record's information, and then edit and save the record to create a new project record.

If the current project is mapped to a project plan, the plan's structure also copies into the new project. This is useful when you have multiple projects with different project numbers but the same overall structure.

If possible duplicate records are detected during this procedure, the Potential Duplicate Records Found dialog box displays. This dialog box lists any existing record that already has the identifier that you are trying to use for a new record.

Copying a project with attached documents does not copy the documents to the new project.

To copy the current project record:

  1. From the Navigation menu, click Hubs > Projects.
  2. On the Projects hub form, select the project record that you want to copy.
  3. Click New and select Copy Current Project. The Create Project From dialog box displays. The current project's name displays in the project field on the dialog box. You cannot edit this field; you will assign a unique identifier for the new project.
  4. Complete the remaining fields on the Create Project From dialog box.
  5. Click OK. DPS closes the Create Project From dialog box and opens a new project record. DPS copies the entire Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and all project data from the current project record to the new project record.
  6. On the tabs of the Projects hub form, add or modify project data and specify a unique identifier for the new record.
  7. Click Save.
