Specify whether or not to use leading zeros, set the client number length, and specify the delimiter symbol and position.
Field | Description |
Display Leading Zeros
|
Select
Yes if you want
DPS to add leading zeros to the number when you enter an incomplete number in any client field in the database. For example, if you enter HGA-ENG and your client number length is ten characters (including the delimiter),
DPS adds leading zeros to the client number (for example, 000HGA-ENG).
This option controls the display of the client numbers on forms and reports, as well as whether or not the client number must be a fixed length.
Select
No if you want
DPS to leave the client number as entered. In this case, you can enter up to 12 alphanumeric characters for the client number when entering new clients in the Clients hub.
If you have already established a client number length with delimiters, then later decide to remove the leading zeros, the delimiter will no longer be aligned properly. Delimiters are stored directly in the database tables (with the client number value). When leading zeros are no longer used, the client number length is no longer a fixed value and the delimiter position is no longer valid. For example, client number 000HGA-ENG becomes HGA-ENG, but client number 000000-CVS becomes -CVS.
|
Field Length
|
Enter the client number length, between 1 and 20 numbers. The current length of the client number appears for reference.
If you decide to decrease the length of the number, first ensure that duplicate client numbers will not be created during the conversion (the conversion will test for this).

Sample Value

This field displays the resulting format of the client number.

Add/Remove Length From Left/Right
|
If you want to add or remove characters from a client number, you can use this feature to determine whether the characters are added to or removed from the left or right side of the number.
For example, if you increase the client number length from 5 to 7, you can then use this feature to add those two numbers to the left of the number: 12345 becomes 0012345.
Conversely, if you decrease the client number length from 7 to 5, you can then use this feature to remove those two numbers to the right of the number: 1234567 becomes 12345.
Remember that the delimiter is counted as part of the client number length.
|
Delimiter Symbol
|
Enter the desired delimiter for your client numbers. The current delimiter for your client number appears for reference.
A delimiter must be a special character, such as a period (.) or a comma (,); not 0 to 9, A to Z, or |.
Delimiters are counted as part of the client number length. For example, if the client number length is 6, the client delimiter is a period (.), and the client delimiter position is 4, the client number appears as 456.78.
|
Delimiter Position
|
This value is required if you entered a delimiter in the
Delimiter Symbol field. Enter the desired delimiter position for your client numbers. The position must be 1 less than the length of the field.
The current delimiter position for your client number appears for reference.
