Field Description
Display Leading Zeros Select this option if you want Vision to add leading zeros to the number when you enter an incomplete unit number in any Unit field in the database. For example, if you enter 1.00 and your unit number length is seven characters (includes the delimiter), Vision adds leading zeros to the unit number (for example, 00001.00).

This option controls the display of the unit numbers on forms and reports, as well as whether or not the unit number must be a fixed length.

Do not select this option if you want Vision to leave the unit number as entered. In this case, you can enter up to 11 alphanumeric characters for the unit number when entering new unit numbers in Unit Info Center.

If you do not show leading zeros after you have already established a unit number length with delimiters in specific position(s), the length and delimiter format will be removed. For example, the unit number 0001.00 would become 1.00.

Delimiters are stored directly in the tables in the databases (with the value). When leading zeros are no longer used, the unit number length is no longer a fixed value and the delimiter position is no longer valid.

Unit Length Enter the desired unit number length, between 3 and 11 numbers. The current length of the unit number appears for reference.

If you decide to decrease the length of the number, first ensure that duplicate unit numbers will not be created during the conversion (conversion will test for this).

Add/Remove from Left/Right If you want to add or remove characters from a unit number, you can use this feature to determine whether the characters are added to or removed from the left or right side of the number.

For example, if you increase the unit number length from 5 to 7, you can then use this feature to add those two numbers to the left of the number: 12345 becomes 0012345.

Conversely, if you decrease the unit number length from 7 to 5, you can then use this feature to remove those two numbers to the right of the number: 1234567 becomes 12345.

Remember that the delimiter is counted as part of the unit number length.

Unit Delimiter Enter the desired delimiter for your unit numbers. The current delimiter for your unit number appears for reference. A delimiter must be a special character, such as a period (.) or a comma (,); not 0 to 9, A to Z, or |.

Delimiters are counted as part of the unit number length. For example, if the unit length is 6, the unit delimiter is a period (.), and the unit delimiter position is 4, the unit number appears as 456.78.

Unit Delimiter Position This value is required if you entered a delimiter in the Unit Delimiter field. Enter the desired delimiter position for your unit numbers. The position must be one less than the length of the field.

The current delimiter position for your unit number appears for reference.

Sample Value This field displays the resulting format of the unit number.
