Enable the Pre-Invoices Feature
The Pre-Invoices feature is an optional feature in Vision that you enable by company if you have multiple companies.
To enable the Pre-Invoices feature in Billing, complete the following steps:
- From the Vision Navigation menu, click Configuration > Billing > General.
- On the Miscellaneous tab, click the Enable Pre-Invoices check box.
- In the Pre-Invoice Receipts Offset field, use the Account lookup to select a general ledger account to credit when a cash receipt from a client is applied to a pre-invoice in Cash Receipts Transaction Entry. This account must be set up in the Accounts Info Center as a Balance Sheet account or an Other Charges account (type of account). This is typically a liability account.

Click
Save.

If you have other companies set up in Vision, repeat these steps as appropriate for the other companies.
After you enable the Pre-Invoices feature:
- A Pre-Invoice tab displays in Billing Terms. Use it to enter other pre-invoice settings for a project and toggle between generating pre-invoices and regular invoices for a project in Interactive Billing and Batch Billing.
- A Pre-Invoice item displays in the Section Order section of the Sections tab in the Billing Invoice Template Editor. A Pre-Invoice section is included on pre-invoice, cancellation, and regular invoice templates for projects that use pre-invoices.
- A Pre-Invoice column displays in the grid in Cash Receipts Transaction Entry to allow you to apply cash receipts to a pre-invoice.
- A Pre-Invoice column and a Cancel button display on the Invoices on File dialog box in Interactive Billing, to allow you to preview pre-invoices and manually cancel unpaid pre-invoices.
