Withholdings by Category Columns

The Withholdings by Category report contains a standard set of columns. You do not have the option to select columns for this report. The header area of the report displays the Form W-2 year and quarter for which you generated the report. The body of the report displays withholding information for each employee.

Column Description
Withholding Code This column displays the code that identifies a type of withholding from the employee's pay.

You assign withholding codes to employees on the Payroll tab of the Employee Info Center.

Employee Number/ Name This column displays the employee's identification number and name.
Method This column only displays if you do not select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

This column displays the method used to calculate withholding amounts:

  • Amount — Vision withholds a fixed amount. The Amount/Percent column displays that amount.

  • System — Vision calculates withholding based on the default method set up in Configuration for the type of withholding.

  • Percentage — Vision withholds a specified percentage of the employee's pay. The Amount/Percent column displays that percentage.

Amount/Percent This column only displays if you do not select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

If the Method column contains Amount or Percentage, this column displays the amount or percentage of wages withheld.

If the Method column contains System, this column is blank.

Limit This column only displays if you do not select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

If the withholding has a limit on the amount that is withheld, this column displays that maximum amount.

An asterisk ( * ) next to a limit amount indicates that the limit is an aggregate limit that is linked to another type of withholding.

Additional Amount This column only displays if you do not select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

If an amount is withheld for the employee in addition to the withholding amount Vision calculates, this column displays that amount.

Examples: An amount to supplement federal or state withholding amounts to guard against under-withholding, or an amount to compensate for withholding too much or too little for prior paychecks.

Current Period or Periods or Dates This column displays the amount withheld during the period you specify in Time Frame on the General tab.
Quarter to Date This column displays the amount withheld during the Form W-2 quarter you specify on the General tab.

This amount includes withholding amounts posted during all payroll processing runs (regular, bonus, and adjustments) unless you select Exclude Bonus or Exclude Adjustment on the Withholdings by Category General tab.

Year to Date This column displays the amount withheld during the Form W-2 year you specify on the General tab.

Current Period or Periods or Dates This column only displays if you select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

This column displays the amount of taxable wages paid during the period you specify in Time Frame on the General tab.

Quarter to Date This column only displays if you select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

This column displays the amount of taxable wages paid during the Form W-2 quarter you specify on the General tab.

Year to Date This column only displays if you select Print Taxable Wages on the General tab of the Options dialog box.

This column displays the amount of taxable wages paid during the Form W-2 year you specify on the General tab.
