Planning Tips

If you are new to Vision, you may find it helpful to review tips for the Planning application.

Hours

Can I have Vision move unused planned hours forward for a period?

Yes. The Spread Variance feature distributes this difference across remaining periods in the same Labor, Expense, or Consultant rows. Spreading these remaining hours allows you to recover planned hours that were not spent or worked and roll those hours forward in the plan. Go to Planning > Spread Variance on the Vision main menu.

Is it possible to enter partial hours, specifically ½ hours?

Yes. Go to Configuration > Planning > Plan Settings and select two digits for the Hour, Quantity, and Amount fields.

Resources

How do I incorporate an employee's vacation time in a project plan?

Set up a plan for an overhead vacation project. Enter the time the employee has scheduled for vacation. Then if you try to add that employee to a plan, he or she will show as utilized on another plan.

Tasks

How do I know when a task is complete?

On the Labor tab of Project Planning, the Start and Finish fields allow you to specify the start and end dates for a WBS element (project, phase, or task).

You can also use the Status field on the General tab of the Project Info Center to select an Active or Inactive status for a WBS element.

Utilization

What is the difference between All Planned and Only Billable Plans in the Resource Utilization Options?

All Planned considers the employee's availability to work while Only Billable Planned looks at the employee's utilization.

  • Utilization is calculated as the total billable percentage of the employee ([Total Planned Hours for Regular Projects] / [Hours Per Day] * [Total Working Days])).

  • Availability then factors in any time the employee is scheduled for vacation, overhead, or promotional projects ([Total Planned Hours] / ([Hours Per Day] * [Total Working Days])).

The options for both are set up under Configuration > Planning > Resource Settings. Only Billable Planned uses the Utilization Determination settings, and All Planned uses the Availability Determination settings.
