Warning Indicators

Navigator displays visual indicators on the project listing to alert you of warning conditions that exist with your projects. For example, the estimate at complete (EAC) amount is greater than the contract amount, or the contract amount is less than or equal to zero.

Navigator performs tests on the labor, expenses, and consultants categories independently. It also considers the assigned budget type (if projects are planned at cost, billing, or both) and the use of multiple currencies (if Vision Multicurrency is enabled).

There may be situations where more than one warning condition occurs. In this case, Navigator combines and organizes the warnings by level of severity. For example, if there is a Labor EAC Profit is Negative red warning and a No Contract yellow warning, both will be listed together under a red indicator.

When you mouse over or tap warning indicators, tooltips display to further explain the warnings. If there are also conditions in Vision that contribute to warnings in Navigator, the visual indicators in Navigator will update as the Vision warnings are resolved.

The table below organizes the visual indicators by indicator color and budget type.

Indicator Description Budget Type Detailed
EAC Higher than Contract All This warning displays to alert you that the labor, expense, or consultant EAC is higher than the associated contract amount at the project level. It also displays any associated categories that trigger the no contract warning.

For example, if labor EAC is higher and the expense contract amount is zero, the tooltip that displays with the warning would be:

Labor EAC Billing is higher than Contract.

No Expense Contract.

The checks that Navigator performs for each type of warning are:
  • Labor: The project's labor EAC from the Labor planning page is greater than the labor contract amount shown on the Contract planning grid
  • Expense: The project's expenses' EAC is greater than the expenses contract amount (the sum of the Direct or Indirect Expense and Reimb. Expense columns on Contract grid).
  • Consultant: The project's consultants' EAC is greater than the consultants contract amount (the sum of Consultant Fee and Reimb. Consultants on Contract grid). This only applies to projects that are Regular charge type.

Note that the Expense EAC Cost is higher than Contract or the Consultant EAC Cost is higher than Contract warnings only display when the project (cost) currency and billing currency are different. This only applies when the Budget Type is set to Cost and Billing and when you are using Vision Multicurrency.

Labor EAC Multiplier is less than Labor Target Multiplier Cost This warning displays to alert you that the labor EAC multiplier is less than the Labor Target Multiplier. This only applies to labor costs and helps alert you that your costs are potentially greater than the anticipated revenue.
Labor EAC Profit is Negative Cost or Cost and Billing This warning displays to alert you of a negative profit amount for the labor EAC.

Calculation: Labor Contract at the project currency - EAC labor at cost - estimated overhead

Note that in cases where this indicator and the Labor EAC Multiplier is less than Labor Target Multiplier are both triggered, only the Labor EAC Profit is Negative indicator will display.

No Contract at Billing or Project Currency Cost and Billing This warning displays for either the billing or the cost currency to alert you that there is no labor, expense, or consultant contract.

The project (cost) currency is the currency in which your project is planned, which the billing currency is the currency that you use to bill your client.

When using Vision Multicurrency, there may be situations where the project and billing currencies may be different. The No Contract at Billing Currency warning only displays when there are two different currencies in use.

No Contract Cost or Billing This warning displays to alert you that there is no labor, expense, or consultant contract, at the project level.
The checks that Navigator performs for each type of warning are:
  • Labor: The project's Labor contract amount at the project level is less than or equal to zero.
  • Expense: The sum of the Direct or Indirect Expenses and Reimb. Expenses columns for the expense contract amount at the project level is less than or equal to zero.
  • Consultant: The sum of the Consultant Fee or Direct Consultant and Reimb. Consultants columns for the consultant contract amount at the project level is less than or equal to zero. This only applies to projects that are Regular charge type.
