Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) on the Planning Grid

The Planning grid displays the different levels of a project, which are collectively referred to as the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). This structure, which you establish in Vision, can have three levels.

The elements of the WBS are mapped to the project plan, with the following defaults:

WBS Element Plan Level
Project 1
Phase 2
Task 3

Your organization can use its own naming conventions for each level of the WBS. In this help system, the elements are referred to as project, phase, and task.

Labor bill values are calculated by summarizing the bill values of the lower levels and rolling up to the higher level.

WBS Currency Amounts

The information displayed in each Vision Navigator WBS element's cell is the rounded sum of individual labor charges or estimate-to-complete (ETC) hours that may have values with a maximum of four decimal places. This differs from Vision Project Planning and Vision Reporting, which round data at the lowest level of the project plan, and then sum the data up to the higher levels.

Because of this difference in functionality, there could be a small discrepancy in amounts between the two applications.

For example, Vision Project Planning is set to show two decimals. The following amounts display:

Task 1 Task 2 Task 3 Task 4 Phase
64.38 38.13 38.13 38.13 178.77

In Vision Navigator, the following amounts display:

Task 1 Task 2 Task 3 Task 4 Phase
64 38 38 38 179
