Create a Project from an Opportunity and Project Template
Use the New Project form to create a new project from an opportunity and a project template.
The CRM or Resource Planning applications must be installed in order for you to be able to create a
project from an
opportunity and a
project template.
- In the Navigation pane, select .
- Click + New Project in the top right corner of the form. DPS displays the New Project form.
- In the Create Project drop-down list, select From Opportunity and Project Template. DPS activates the Opportunity and the Project Template fields.
- In Opportunity, enter the name of the opportunity. As you type, DPS displays all matching opportunities you have security rights to see.
- In Project Template, enter the name of the template. As you type, DPS displays all matching templates you have security rights to see.
- Enter a unique number in Project Number and a unique name in Name.
- To include a longer, more descriptive name for the project, enter it in Long Name.
- Select Regular, Overhead, or Promotional from the Charge Type drop-down list.
-
Click
Continue.
- If the template you select does not have WBS structure, DPS completes this work flow by creating the project and displaying it in Edit All mode, where you can adjust the copied data on each of the project tabs. When you have finished entering data on each of the project tabs, click Save to create the project.
- If the template you select has WBS structure, DPS displays the Choose Project form. Continue with the next step.
- In the Choose Project Structure form, by default the check boxes for all phases and tasks are selected. Deselect the check boxes for the phases and tasks you do not want to copy from the existing project to the new project. Deselecting a phase deselects that phase's associated tasks.
- Click Continue. DPS displays the Edit Project Structure form.
-
Make any desired changes in the Edit
Project Structure form:
- You can change the values for any of the phases and tasks fields in the grid. For example, you might want to change the status from Dormant to Active.
- You can also make changes to the project structure. To copy, delete, or add a new WBS element under a row, hover over the row, click , and select the option from the drop-down list.
- Click Save.
When you create a new project from an opportunity and a template, DPS also creates a plan for the project, so you can immediately begin entering planned labor hours and planned expense and consultant amounts.
Note that for all projects created in the browser application, the Approved for use in processing option is not selected. If that option should be selected for a project, an Accounting user must display that project in the desktop application and select it there.
